A Grower / Producer is unique in that it owns and manages all of its own land, producing wine from those vineyards. This is a definite advantage over so many wineries that buy fruit from growers like us. Sauvignon Blanc reigns here, occupying all of the 31 acres. The Pelissa family acquired this vineyard in 1986.
Rock Cairn Vineyard
In the Oakville appellation, grapes from the old vines of the Rock Cairn Vineyard have been long sought after by some of Napa Valley’s finest wineries. It is named for rock cairns left by Native Americans who traveled through the hills of Yountville. The 30 precious acres are planted to Cabernet Sauvignon.
Ghost Block Vineyard
Nestled on a gently sloping knoll on the north edge of Yountville, Ghost Block vineyard is named in honor of the historic Pioneer Cemetery for which it borders. The vineyard is 18 acres planted to Cabernet Sauvignon.
Pelissa Vineyard
Named in honor of Andrew and Babe Pelissa, this vineyard is located directly behind our family winery, Napa Wine Company, in Oakville. One of the last vineyards in the Oakville AVA still growing 11 acres of the Zinfandel varietal within this 55 acre vineyard.
Block House Vineyard
Block House is the largest of our vineyards at 292 acres, planted to 12 different varietals, mainly Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Syrah, and Cabernet. The vineyard is named for pioneer George C. Yount’s block house, the first Kentucky style block house west of the Mississippi. In the design of a block house, the top floor juts out over the ground floor so that inhabitants can protect the structure. Block houses were often constructed for defense in frontier areas.
Lincoln Creek Vineyard
Known for its Zinfandel, the 80 acres of Lincoln Creek is located between Highway 29 on the west and the Napa River on the east in the Oakville appellation. It is named for a small creek that cuts through the middle of the vineyard.
Mill Race Vineyard
The Mill Race Vineyard is cradled by a curve in the Napa River’s eastern bank. George C. Yount’s original grist/flour mill was powered by a “race” – a diverted part of the river once on the site of this vineyard. Located in the Yountville appellation, Mill Race Vineyard is sheltered by the Yountville Hills to the west and is situated just below the border of the Oakville appellation to the north. This block of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot is 47 acres.
